BMIS (Border Management Information System)

BMIS is a comprehensive real-time online web-enabled system with intelligent GIS capabilities, covering all functional requirements of border security & control and migration management, real-time alerts, advanced analytical and query processing capabilities.

Border Management Information System (BMIS) is a complete modern solution that combines all aspects of migration facilitation and management, and border security and control. It caters to all functional requirements of any border, be it Air, Land (Road, Rail), or Sea. A web-enabled system that can be implemented at all borders, with central information hubs at key User Agencies / Ministries / Depts., it is an online, real-time system that is comprehensive and integrated, incorporating the best-of-breed software technologies. Its design lays particular emphasis on all aspects of information security, reliability, fast transaction capability and capacity. DIS is a part of BMIS, and is implemented along with BMIS.

Key Features

  • Web functionality - information, query and alerts across the Net.
  • Comprehensive, covering all functional areas of modern migration management and border control.
  • Online real-time networking across the country's Borders and all concerned Authorities (Ministries of Home, Internal Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Police, Border Security, Passport & Immigration Depts., etc.). and with country's Missions abroad.
  • BMIS can also be networked with external agencies such as Foreign Consulates and Missions, Interpol databases, travel / transport Cos. (such as airlines, railways, shipping Cos., roadways), authorised agencies (such as designated travel / ticketing / tourist companies).
  • Automatic and constant check on entry and exit flows, to match each entry with the corresponding exit and vice versa, to identify overstaying/missing people, etc.
  • Extensive querying and reporting facilities integrated in a neural network across the system.
  • Queries on passengers / travellers, goods / cargo, transport companies / vehicles. History of all these items with information access to various agencies concerned with migration, border security, police and related functions.
  • Multi-lingual system with a powerful intelligent phonetic-based search engine that retrieves matching and near-matching words and phrases (names, descriptions, addresses, etc.).
  • Void documents are recorded and alerts issued when such documents are presented.
  • Wanted people alert - multi-criteria check on person / document / cargo / vehicle through own / Police / Home Ministry and Interpol databases, at visa processing, and during entry & exit at border. Also there are alerts for secondary inspection.
  • Very user-friendly. Minimum data entry requirements as the system enables extensive pre-populating of entry / user screens with data already available elsewhere across the entire system. Users require just a thin client with a browser front-end and a normal IP connection.

Advantages of Using BMIS

  • BMIS does the verification with the Document Identification Database, Wanted People Database and Unwanted People Database (Interpol and National Databases) when issuing visa thus eliminating the need to check multiple databases individually.
  • It does a multi-criteria check of incoming and outgoing passengers' passport / visa details with the issued Visa Database (document number, validity, issuer, purpose of visit, government bodies response: visa rejected or granted, etc.) for nationals and with the Passport Database for foreigners thus ensuring a failsafe method of verification.
  • It has the facility for automatically recording data on travel tickets issued and other information, directly acquired from ticket issuing authorities such as airlines, travel agents, railway stations, etc, thus eliminating the need for manually recording the details.
  • BMIS has the facility for interfacing with document readers, distance / proximity readers, scanners.
  • Apart from receiving information from police and international databases, it can also pull information from foreign missions and consulates that will help process travellers in a more effective manner.
  • BMIS will automatically alert the user for a secondary inspection of the passenger in the line, when the passenger's document entries are not found in the databases, or there is some discrepancy or doubt.
  • BMIS sends an automatic alert to the border guard by way of a mark-up on the CCTV photo image, when any monitoring Unit anywhere across the System identifies a Wanted person crossing the Border, based on visuals from the Border camera.
  • It allows information access to various agencies concerned with migration, border control & security, police and related functions herby becoming a common platform to ensure the flow of information to the right parties at the right time.
  • BMIS is very user-friendly. It requires minimum data entry requirements as the system enables extensive pre-populating of entry / user screens with data already available elsewhere across the entire system.
  • It has fast response times, even with ordinary Internet connectivity.
